I
was born and raised on a farm in Locke, NY, growing up with a love of the
outdoors and all of God's creatures.
With a love of
drawing throughout school and putting it aside to raise a family, it was with
great joy I was able to get back to painting and creating.
This brought me to the Clayton Decoy show in 1979 where the art of carving
birds started a new career. Although
I am largely self-taught, my father-in-law, a duck decoy carver, gave me much
needed guidance until I got away from ducks and into carving songbirds.
With the support of my husband, soon birds were in galleries in Ohio, Florida,
Michigan, Maine, New Jersey and several here in New York.
I have shown at carving shows in Virginia Beach, VA; York, PA; Ocean
City, MD; Clayton, NY; Beaver Lake Nature Center, Baldwinsville, NY; and The New
York State Wildlife Art Exhibit at the New York State Fair.
My carvings are also in several foreign countries including Japan,
Holland, England and Canada.
Now, due to arthritis, my hands appreciate holding a paint brush more than
carving tools. Carving is no longer
my priority although commissions are still accepted.
I have gone back to my earlier love of painting and teaching using acrylics
with nature always my inspiration. Even
though I've received many first place ribbons for my carvings, it was an honor
to receive a First Place Ribbon for a flamingo painting at the Fulton Art
Association Show this year.
I was president of the Onondaga Woodcarvers Club for ten years.
Now my donated time is spent doing murals at our church (Brewerton
Assembly of God, Brewerton, NY) and at the National Railway Historical Society's
train museum in Central Square, NY.
I feel God has given me a gift that must
be shared.
